“Flooding in Australia”
January 17, 2011
John Hutchinson read the Kingdom Assignment in 2002
John a Pastor in Perth, Australia that we first met when he challenged his congregation to live the KIngdom Assignment life even though he had no money to give the very poor church he Pastored. Two days later he began opening his mail and received a letter that was anonymous saying they wanted to do a KA in their community. Unsure of what that meant he began to open the rest of the mail when he came upon a package. When he opened it 100 dollar bills came pouring out. $10,000 dollars in all. That following weekend he brought four other Pastor's together and that Sunday they handed out 100 dollar bills to five bewildered and shocked congregations. Using the same scripture in Matt. 25 and the rules patterned in the Kingdom Assignment book. 1. The money isn't yours, it's Gods. 2. You have to further God's Kingdom outside the walls of the church. 3. You have to report back what you did 90 days later. The results I couldn't even begin to tell you, but 8 years later it still goes on and on. Here is one of John's most recent stories. He now oversees 70 churches through out Australia. Please pray for Australia!
Hi Leesa and Denny,
You may have heard about all the flooding we are having downunder. It has been flooding on the west coast as well. Dec. 10-20 a town called Carnarvon 900 kilometres north of Perth was flooded. A small very isolated town with the closest other town being over 400 kilometres away. I was up there last week helping with the clean up and distribution of goods to those in need. Our local pastor there is on the committee for the recovery process. I was scheduled to preach on the Sunday and as I prayed about what God would have me share. I believe he nudged me with the idea of a Kingdom assignment! We had some money other churches had given Carnarvon church so they could "be the church to their community". I saw it as a fantastic opportunity to involve the whole congregation (approx 30) I spoke using the theme "small things matter" and that though things looked overwhelming small acts of love and kindness can have a huge impact. I gave them $100 each – God's money; listen to him and see how he wants you to use it to express his love to your neighbours and friends. A little twist on the original but gave them a tool and the encouragement that they can do something and expect God to do something.
Love and prayers to you both,
John
